    The Production Design Group within Chick-fil-A, Inc. focuses on engineering innovative restaurant system solutions to enable profitable growth for 2,400+ restaurants. The Senior Lead Engineer role within the Validate/Launch group of Production Design is to work with a team through all phases of the Innovation process while leading and influencing projects so that they will meet a high standard of reliability and intuitive ease of use.

    By 2020, Chick-fil-A restaurants will have more than 20,000 IoT-connected pieces of equipment. Leadership in the area of data analytics is required, to gain insights into proper equipment operation, life-cycle and maintenance expectations as well as consistent process flow between connected pieces of equipment in the restaurant environment. Smart Equipment Analytics include analyzing OEE and Reliability, and identifying opportunities for Preventive/Predictive Maintenance and Continuous Improvement

    This position as an Operations Research Analyst will require the candidate to analyze data and develop or apply statistical models, simulation, and mathematical programming on projects that are technically complex, requiring experience and expertise across the full spectrum of the research and analysis process: business and analytic problem framing, data analysis, model development, deployment, and management, and communicating results to business stakeholders. They must be able to quickly develop mastery of new subject-matter across many facets of restaurant operations for which they have responsibility.

    This position will typically work with wide latitude for action or decisions on outcomes for projects that are typically more complex or cross-functional in nature. They may represent Production Design in external conversations and may assist with the selection or oversight of outside vendor partners. Successful candidates for this role must have strong analytical and research skills, a strong understanding of operations research methods and their mathematical underpinnings, and they must have strong programming skills with SQL, Python, Java, and/or other mathematical programming and scripting languages. They will need to be fast learners with a keen eye for detail, systems thinking, and process design. They must be team players who work steadfastly to create impactful change. This is a professional track role.

    Position must be able to understand current state-of-the systems for IoT-connected equipment and apply robust, forward-thinking test planning and problem-resolution decisions. This role is also expected to be an influencer within Chick-fil-A to help direct the organization through innovative concepts and communicate their applications in the context of menu and operational strategies.


    •  Develop and apply statistical models, simulation, and optimization based on smart equipment /internet-of-things (IoT) data streams to analyze equipment reliability and overall equipment effectiveness, and to identify opportunities for optimal maintenance programs and continuous improvement
    • Develop and apply equipment and system simulation and optimization models to support equipment and system design and investment decision making
    • Develop and apply statistical models, simulation, and optimization based on smart equipment /internet-of-things (IoT) data streams to analyze equipment reliability and overall equipment effectiveness, and to identify opportunities for optimal maintenance programs and continuous improvement
    • Visualize and communicate analytic and model results through Tableau and/or other visualization tools
    • Ensure accuracy of Production Design data stored in corporate data systems
    • Develop guidelines for appropriate use of Production Design data stored in corporate data systems
    • Acts as an individual contributor on project engagements and is responsible for implementing operations research best practice in their work.
    • Develops and manages models, workflows, and/or code in support of their specific project work.
    • Owns and is accountable for model and code quality and documentation for the project work they execute.
    • Performs ad-hoc analysis as necessary to support project work.
    •  Helps drive projects to success, enables others to own the project’s impact.
    • Directly support IoT connectivity validation for new equipment design and development projects
    •  Provide technical leadership and influence to a team of engineers and test technicians
    • Support in the development of functional requirements for new IoT-connected equipment designs
    • Work with vendor partners on security compliance checklist for IoT equipment
    • Communicate well with and ability to influence non-technical business disciplines through the explanation and adoption of technology as applied to menu and operational strategies
    • Define requirements and testing protocols for in-field testing and qualification
    • Candidate will be required to leverage their skills as an individual contributor and in a technical leadership capacity
    • Will be responsible to present definitive documentation in a final release package to downstream organizations and support of rollout teams throughout the Launch of new equipment and systems.
    • Will be responsible for aligning strategy and work output with various cross-functional disciplines including other teams within Production Design, Restaurant Development, Supply Chain, Kitchen Design, Restaurant Operations, Training and Digital Transformation & Technology (formerly IT)

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor of Science in an Engineering, Operations Research or computer science discipline.
    • 5 years of Engineering, Operations Research or data analytics work experience
    •  Has strong analytical and research skills
    • Has a strong understanding of operations research methods to include statistical analysis, optimization, and simulation.
    •  Has strong programming skills in SQL, Python, Java, and/or other mathematical programming and scripting languages.
    • Proven ability to provide technical leadership to mentor peers
    • Ability to work with wide latitude for unreviewed action or decision on most outcomes
    • Proficiency in MS Office products (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
    • Advanced project management skills demonstrated
    • Excellent communication, relational, and team skills to enable interaction with restaurant team members, as well as corporate peers and leaders

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Master of Science or MBA
    • Demonstrated ability to develop innovative tests and experiments to validate ideas and theories
    • Proven track record of identification and application of new technology from other industries to their current employer
    • Thought leadership around technology adoption and design for reliability

    Engineering Discipline, preferably Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or Operations Research. Could include Mechanical or Industrial Engineering with specific experience in Operations Research and data analytics
