Overview

Chick-fil-A, Inc. has a stated intent to expand business interests in Canada, Puerto Rico, and the EMEA and APAC regions. To support this growth, Chick-fil-A is seeking a Sr. Lead Software Engineer to architect and deliver backend solutions that power our International Technology Strategy.

In this role, you will function as both a builder and an enabler, designing scalable backend platforms and helping other engineers do the same across a variety of projects. You will lead the design, specification, and delivery of solutions that serve the needs of our international businesses in Canada, Puerto Rico, Singapore, and the UK.

You will be able to lean on partners to augment your capacity, but you will ultimately be responsible for the design, specification, vendor management, and final acceptance. You will have access to staff Outcome Owners, Enterprise/Solution/Data Architects, and other resources to help you achieve your goal.

The role will report to the Engineering Leader for International Solutions in Entity Technology Solutions and will partner closely with other technical leaders within the Digital Transformation and Technology (DTT) department.

Our Flexible Future model offers a healthy mix of working in person and virtually, strengthening key elements of the Chick-fil-A culture by fostering collaboration and community.

Responsibilities

  • Architect and Build Solutions
    • Design and build backend solutions based on product requirements, ensuring scalability, resilience, and security across multiple time zones and regions.
    • Deliver Proof-of-Concept solutions to validate international approaches and deploy them with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (e.g., Pulumi) to AWS or GCP.
    • Contribute to full-stack delivery when needed, leveraging expertise in backend languages (Golang, Java, Ruby, or similar) and front-end technologies (TypeScript, React, Next.js).
    • Support high-demand, low-latency systems operating at global scale.
  • Technical Leadership & Mentorship
    • Mentor engineers across the International Engineering Organization, sharing best practices and raising technical standards.
    • Collaborate with partner and contract engineering teams: reviewing code, solving complex problems, and modeling high-quality engineering practices.
    • Evaluate and recommend emerging technologies, frameworks, and methodologies to improve solution quality and developer experience.
  • Vendor & Partner Stewardship
    • Interview and onboard contract engineers and partner teams.
    • Review partner progress to ensure compliance with Chick-fil-A engineering standards, requirements, deadlines, and SLAs.
    • Manage partner utilization responsibly, balancing quality outcomes with stewardship of budgeted resources.

Entity Technology Solutions is responsible for the digital technology experience to enable the Business capabilities for the international expansion of Chick-fil-A. Some of those solutions include, Point of Sale, Commerce Experiences, Financial Services, Restaurant ERP, etc. Your projects will fall into one or more of these domains.

Note - Working in a DevOps model, this opportunity includes both building and running solutions that could require off hours support. This support is shared amongst the team members to cover weekends and weeknights.  The goal is to design for failure and, using cloud-native infrastructure patterns, automate responses to possible issues so they can be worked during normal hours.
