Overview

The Chick-fil-A Tax Department is responsible for tax compliance, technology, special projects, research and audit defense functions for independently-owned franchised restaurants and corporate activities. We exist to provide tax planning, regulatory reporting and consulting to stakeholders, governments, external auditors and business leaders.  As we grow in complexity and global footprint, we seek to influence business decisions, reduce tax liability and mitigate risk.

The Sr. Accountant, Payroll Tax, responsibilities will be to support the Payroll Tax Compliance function by assisting with U.S. Federal, state, and local payroll tax compliance and audits for Chick-fil-A, Inc., related affiliates, and third-party franchisees, and associated responsibilities.

The Sr. Accountant will be responsible for the growth and development of the Tax Department through active participation in department meetings, conferences, webinars, and professional/personal development.

A Sr. Accountant, Payroll Tax, performs work under limited supervision, conferring with supervisor on unusual matters.

As Chick-fil-A grows into the International market, this role will include any international responsibilities to support third-party franchisees, payroll systems and payroll tax compliance. 

Responsibilities

Primary Responsibilities:

• Prepare, process, and file payroll tax returns for franchisees, Chick-fil-A, Inc. and related affiliates in moderately to complex taxing jurisdictions.  Manages and oversees all payroll tax rate research for franchisee entities, including off-site locations, delivery locations, and food trucks. Register tax accounts with governmental agencies, remit tax payments, reconcile governmental tax accounts, resolve tax notices, and perform related accounting responsibilities.
• Having thorough knowledge of Payroll Tax Compliance to proactively identify and solve minimally to moderate complex payroll tax compliance issues.  People Leader/Team Leader may offer guidance in areas where less insight or experience may exist.
• Requires limited supervision.  Capable of answering routine payroll tax compliance questions independently, responding to Operators and governmental tax agencies in a timely manner.
• May assist in and contribute to efforts around compliance, audit, or complex payroll tax projects; may lead small, low risk projects independently outside of scope of current work; expected to meaningfully contribute to larger projects/processes.
• Work performed considerably influences other accountants, functional partners, innovation and standardization.  Collaborates with governmental agencies in compliance matters.

Minimum Qualifications

  • 1+ years of Payroll, Tax, or Accounting Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance or Bachelor’s Degree, CPA Eligible or 5+ years of Payroll Tax Compliance Experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting/Finance and 5+ years of Payroll, Tax or Accounting experience
  • CPP and/or CPA
