Overview

The Restaurant Financial Systems team provides Operators and those who serve them with tools, reports and systems that equip them for profitable growth. We do this by building robust data infrastructure, maximizing the effectiveness of our systems portfolio, and offering those we serve with relevant and timely insights about their businesses.

 

Lead Insights Analysts are responsible for sustaining a high degree of technical and analytical competence and project leadership as they partner with cross-functional Staff teams and Restaurant Operators. Their primary role is to identify and communicate insights for an assigned scope of business through the blending, transformation, and critical evaluation of data through descriptive, diagnostic, and select predictive methods leveraging Chick-fil-A's established analytics tool stack. Lead Insights Analysts and are considered data & process owners within the organization.

 

This role will be part of the Restaurant Benchmark & Costing team, a team that is uniquely positioned from an analytics and business-process standpoint to provide restaurant-level financial insights. This role is expected to maintain a high level of subject matter expertise for our menu & ingredient costing system and will focus on cost and profitability impacts associated with menu test concepts or changes. The individual will be responsible for both proactive and responsive analysis leveraging their technical skillset and will be responsible for communicating insights through static reports or dashboards that are easily digestible for audiences that are not analytics experts.

 

This role performs and presents theoretical menu item profitability analysis for new development and/or changes to existing menu items (i.e., menu & packaging-related innovation) to cross-functional stakeholders.  The individual will be responsible for liaison between teams within Marketing and Supply Chain Innovation to lead financial impact analysis as part of their roadmap, thus playing a critical role in providing stewardship and financial insights to project teams.

 

As a Lead Insights analyst, this individual will also have a high degree of project and product leadership as they will be considered analytics SMEs for the various projects they participate in and will be expected to represent the team to present findings to our stakeholders' leadership teams. They will be responsible for not only for taking full ownership of the data and analytics, but the relationships with key stakeholders to work autonomously and drive initiatives with limited supervision from leadership. They will develop comprehensive knowledge of a robust menu cost data infrastructure – serving as a SME for food cost and providing strategic direction for the costs and profit impact of cross-functional menu ideas or decisions.

 

This individual will also be responsible for recommending changes to appropriate systems to impacted Operators and Staff by creating and ensuring execution of the project plan, communicating key details, escalating issues, and responding to results.  They leverage their deep knowledge and expertise to advise stakeholders, make strategic recommendations and influence both proactive and responsive direction.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate ownership of the data and analytics by delivering accurate and timely insights by leveraging analytics tools and demonstrate ownership of the relationship by serving as the main point of contact for requests and tasks that arise from partners.
  • Perform and present theoretical menu item profitability analysis for new development and/or changes to existing menu items (i.e., menu & packaging-related innovation) to cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Solve complex analytical problems requiring synthesis of diverse inputs to prepare and present Actual vs. Target food cost variance analyses for menu concepts.
  • Interface with staff to produce menu item development financial reports and provide a high level of customer service, demonstrating exemplary project leadership and communication skills.
  • Participate in strategic initiatives to innovate and automate our current product suite to increase efficiency and accuracy of ad-hoc and recurring reporting.
  • Represent the team in recurring, cross-functional, project team meetings and proactively intake needs of Partners, ultimately ensuring data requirements and deadlines are understood to perform necessary tasks
  • Work comfortably with large and complex datasets that span multiple facets of the business and translate the analysis into one cohesive story for stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with Costing Team Lead, Analytics Team Lead, and Product Lead to take leadership on strategic initiatives that give Staff and Operators access to more timely, accurate, and relatable reporting.
  • Drive continuous improvement in service delivery by investigating root causes behind sub-optimal process outputs and formulating remediation plans.
  • Manage and prioritize several tasks and projects and play a key role in managing stakeholder expectations by communicating roadmap to stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving experience & understanding of data systems and structures
  • Proven ability to write robust SQL queries or high proficiency in another data transformation tool 
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate and present findings to executive leadership or upper-level management
  • Strong financial acumen and analytical agility
  • Experience in Tableau or another data visualization tool
  • Demonstrated ability to produce scalable and repeatable analytic processes
  • Problem-solving experience and understanding of data systems and structures
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to partner with peers and leaders using strong written and verbal communication
  • Strong systems-thinking mindset, able to understand intricate details and how they relate to each other in the broader scope of a system
  • Attentional to details, high sense of responsibility and accuracy
  • Self-Starter; proactively seeking solutions and can work autonomously with limited supervision
  • Ability to manage multiple and varying tasks, processes and/or projects while being able to appropriately prioritize work 
  • Strong applied knowledge of basic data best practices

  • Proficiency in Excel, Word, PowerPoint

Preferred Qualifications

  • 4-7 years’ experience
  • Experience with Bill of Materials/Recipes
  • Experience with Databricks or DBT
  • Experience with financial analysis of new product creation
  • Experience working with Product teams or familiarity with product management structure
  • Proven Alteryx and Tableau skills
  • Experience with automation of analytical reporting
  • Analytical and Reporting Product Ownership experience
  • Familiarity with Atlassian tools (Jira and Confluence)
  • Experience working in retail, hospitality, or QSR industries
  • Experience in managerial accounting or financial modeling
  • Experience creating ThoughtSpot insights
